Not miscible with water, but miscible with ethanol and ether. It is used for making essence, cosmetics, solvent, anti-foaming agent, plasticizer, antifreeze, lubricating oil additive and so on. It's a by-product from coconut oil to lauric acid. It can also be obtained by the controlled polymerization of ethylene through catalysis and then hydrolysis and separation.
