Melting point 134-134.4ºC, boiling point 294.5ºC (13.3kPa), 243.5ºC (2.0kPa), relative density 1.2705 (20/4ºC), refractive index 1.422, molar heat of combustion 5.424MJ/mol. Soluble in alcohol and ether, slightly soluble in water, 1g of the product soluble in 700ml water or 60ml boiling water. The main ester products are methyl ester, isopropyl ester, butyl ester, octyl ester, nonyl ester and phenyl methyl ester, and the common esters are dibutyl sebacate and dioctyl sebacate. Sebacic acid plasticizer can be widely used in polyvinyl chloride, alkyd resin, polyester resin and polyamide molding resin, because of its low toxicity and high temperature resistance, so often used in some special purpose resin. Nylon molding resin produced with sebacic acid has higher toughness and lower moisture absorption, and can also be processed into many special purpose products. Sebacic acid is also used as a rubber softener, surfactant, coating and flavoring material.
