Colorless transparent volatile liquid. It has a pungent odor similar to ether. Soluble in about 50 times water, soluble in phenol, aldehyde, ketone, glacial acetic acid, triethyl phosphate, ethyl acetoacetate, cyclohexylamine. Miscible with other chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents and ethanol, ether and N, n-dimethylformamide.
Natural gas chlorination process Natural gas reacts with chlorine gas, absorbs hydrochloric acid produced by hydrogen chloride through water, removes the residual trace hydrogen chloride with lye, and then dries, compresses, condenses and distillates to obtain the finished product.
Chloromethane chloride process Chloromethane reacts with chlorine gas under 4000kW light to produce dichloromethane, which is finished by alkali washing, compression, condensation, drying and rectification. The main by-product is trichloromethane.

It is used as an auxiliary blowing agent in the production of polyether urethane foam and as a blowing agent for extruding polysulfone foam.
