Purpose:
Ethylene glycol butyl ether acetate is widely used in coatings, inks, adhesives and plastics. It can be used as a plasticizer, diluent, surfactant and preservative.
Preparation:
Glycol butyl ether acetate is generally prepared by the reaction of butanol with acetic anhydride. Butanol is added to the reaction vessel, then acetic anhydride is slowly added and the reaction mixture is heated. After the reaction is completed, pure ethylene glycol butyl ether acetate product is obtained through distillation and purification steps.
